On 9th December, Andrew attended the Annual Ceremony of the Christmas Cake alongside the Chelsea Pensioners at Royal Hospital. Established in 1949, this ceremony is a symbol of the strong friendship between the UK and Australia.
Every year, a large cake is donated to the Chelsea Pensioners by a different state within Australia, with this year's cake being offered by the Government of Queensland.
Following the event, Andrew commented:
'Our relationship with Australia is a very unique one - dating back centuries. In today's global political climate it is imperative that we appreciate our friends and allies, and it is events and traditions such as these which allow us to show our support for our Commonwealth partners.'
