The M.P. for Romford and Assembly Member for Havering and Redbridge, Andrew Rosindell and Keith Prince, have today thrown their combined weight behind Havering Council's campaign for a discount on the planned Lower Thames Crossing toll road for Havering residents.
In a joint statement, Mr Rosindell and Mr Prince say that Havering residents "will have to live with the impacts of construction over the coming years" and argue that "it is only right that we in Havering therefore get a discount."
The pair in their statement urge Havering residents to submit their views to the consultation.
The statement comes ahead of a new consultation being launched by the managers of the project. The consultation will focus on community impact and opened today, Wednesday 14th July.
The new toll road would link the counties of Kent and Essex and in the north of the project would link the M25 in Havering and the A13 in Thurrock. The tunnel under the Thames would begin in the north at Tilbury.
Andrew Rosindell M.P. and Keith Prince A.M. said:
"The Lower Thames Crossing will be a positive development linking the great counties of Kent and Essex. However, there is no getting away from the enormous short to medium term impacts on people in Havering as a result of construction. It will mean more noise, more pollution and more traffic
We in Havering will have to live with the impacts of construction over the coming years. It is only right that we in Havering therefore get a discount.
We urge all Havering residents to make their voices known to the consultation opening on the 14th."
