Following on from the Council's decision to push ahead with the annual Christmas decorations in Havering due to a donation from Marlborough Highways, Andrew Rosindell MP. has issued the following statement:
I am pleased to learn that thanks to the generosity of Marlborough Highways, Christmas trees will now be placed in town centres across Havering this year. This donation of £20,000 is a welcome gesture that ensures every community will have the chance to celebrate Christmas in the way they deserve. The cancellation of the traditional Christmas lights and trees, due to budgetary decisions made by Havering Council, caused dismay, disappointment and anger amongst residents. I shared their outrage, and I have been vocal in my belief that Christmas, as a key part of our cultural and religious heritage, should never be sidelined. The intervention from local businesses and community groups shows the strength of community spirit in Havering. It is thanks to these groups that we can now look forward to festive celebrations in our town centres. I remain committed to standing up for the traditions and values that are at the heart of our community, and I will continue to ensure that Romford and Havering are places where our Christian heritage is both celebrated and respected. Let us now make Christmas in Havering a joyful and truly festive season for all!
