Andrew Rosindell M.P. has come out in defence of the cross of Saint George in light of the changes made by Nike to England's football kit.
The flag of England belongs to the people of England! No "update" is required to the Cross of St. George! @nikefootball do not have the right to change our flag, to do so is an insult! The shirt should be withdrawn, our one restored, and the price cut in half as an apology!
The Havering Daily ran the following piece, which can be read on their site here.:
‘The flag of England belongs to the people of England! No update is required to the Cross of St George!’ were the angry words of Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford and also the Chairman of the Royal Society of St George, Houses of Parliament Branch and Chairman of the British Heritage All Party Parliamentary Group in Westminster.
Mr Rosindell has hit out at American Sports Giants Nike for their changing of St George’s flag on the latest England football kit.
Mr Rosindell added: “The shirt should be withdrawn, our flag restored to its correct colours and the price of the shirt should be cut in half as an apology! The Football Association also have a lot of explaining to do as to how on earth they agreed to let this happen!”.
Mr Rosindell is known for his patriotism and the proud flying of the flag of St George and Union Jack outside his Romford Headquaters.
Mawney Ward Councillor Dilip Patel has also joined the heavy criticism of the changing of the Cross of St George, and told the Havering Daily: “This is completely unacceptable. The England players should refuse point blank to wear the new shirt. Why are they doing this to our flag? Would they do this to their flag? This is insulting to us as a nation and we must make sure they change it back immediately!”
