At a Foreign Affairs Sub-Committee on the Overseas Territories meeting on the 28th February, members of the Committee were given the opportunity to hear evidence from David Snoxell, former British High Commissioner to Mauritius, and Dr Walter C Ladwig III, Senior lecturer in international relations at King's College London, regarding His Majesty's Government’s engagement on the British Indian Ocean Territory.
Andrew Rosindell M.P., former Chairman of the Chagos Islands (B.I.O.T.) All-Party Parliamentary Group, and member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, had stern questions to ask the panel regarding the self-determination of the Chagossian.
The British Government forced the Chagos Islanders from their homes to make way for an American naval base, with no possibility to return, so its about time that we allow the Chagossians to decide on their own future and return to their homeland.
The other dilemma is that Mauritius claim the islands for themselves, a decision which can only be determined by the Chagossian people.
