“I am delighted to extend this message to the people of Gibraltar on this very special weekend for ‘The Rock’ as Gibraltarians gather to celebrate Gibraltar National Day, which we celebrate on the 10th September every year.
Gibraltar holds a unique place in the hearts of so many, with its rich history, vibrant culture, and resilient community. As Chairman of Conservative Friends of Gibraltar and a Vice-Chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Gibraltar, as well as being a long-standing friend of the people of Gibraltar, I am proud to stand with the people of the Rock in celebrating the strength and unity that define this proud British Overseas Territory.
Gibraltar National Day commemorates the 1967 sovereignty referendum in Gibraltar which saw an overwhelming 99.64% of Gibraltarians vote against Spanish sovereignty over their territory. Instead, they chose to maintain their status as a territory of the British Crown, maintaining their local democratic institutions and continued unity with the United Kingdom.
I salute the people of Gibraltar for their unwavering spirit and their commitment to preserving and enhancing the unique character of their beautiful homeland, which I have been so proud to visit for National Day on numerous occasions over the years since my election to Parliament in 2001.
Let nothing divide the people the United Kingdom and Gibraltar, we must stand together for ever. British we are, British we stay!
Happy Gibraltar Day to all my friends on the Rock and may this celebration be a source of joy and inspiration for years to come!
God Save The King!”
Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford
