‘Enough is enough, we need to see the police back on the streets of Romford!’ - Andrew Rosindell MP
The Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell has been campaigning for the closure of park gates at night, for months.
Two weeks ago, sadly a second rape incident was reported at Raphael’s Park, Romford.
Angered by this awful attack, Mr Rosindell told the Havering Daily:
“Over the past week, I am appalled to learn of yet another incident in Raphael Park.
This is a clear example of poorly thought-out council cost cutting, which has enabled serious crimes to occur within our public spaces.
The reality is that Havering Council must change their policy and start locking park gates after hours.
This is a very simple solution that would solve many of the issues that blight our parks, local residents have been calling for this for months and it is abundantly clear that this is now required.
I am also concerned with the lack of police resourcing within Havering and outer London boroughs more generally.
Only last month I raised this directly with the Commissioner, Sir Mark Rowley, calling on further officers to bolster Romford Police Station. However, the reality is that places like Havering have very different requirements than inner London areas and our resources are constantly diverted centrally for mutual aid.
This is unsustainable and we need a long-term solution to ensure our streets are properly policed.
The people of Romford can be assured that I will continue to press Havering Council to act to make our parks safe and hold both the Mayor of London and the Government to account over the need for more police cover in Havering.
It is not acceptable to me, as Romford’s M.P., that we pay for policing that we are not getting as resources are always directed to inner London and not Havering.
Enough is enough, we need to see the police back on the streets of Romford!
Andrew Rosindell M.P., Member of Parliament for Romford
