Today, Andrew Rosindell M.P. attended Romford's commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day at the Coronation Gardens, followed by a gathering at the Romford & District Synagoue.
Commenting about the day on social media, Andrew said the following:
A deeply moving Sunday afternoon in Romford for the Holocaust Memorial Day commemorations at the Coronation Gardens, as we lit candles to remember the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides, pledging to work for a better world where we can live in peace and freedom.
As Romford’s MP, I was proud to be asked to adress the Holocaust Memorial Day gathering at the Romford & District Synagogue on the topic of the ‘fragility of freedom’, hosted by the Rabbi of Romford, the Rev. Lee Sunderland.
Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD), observed on the 27th January in the United Kingdom, is a national commemoration dedicated to remembering the victims of the Holocaust and other genocides under Nazi persecution. Established in 2001 and coinciding with the liberation of Auschwitz concentration camp in 1945, the annual event, supported by the Holocaust Memorial Day Trust, features a central theme each year, with numerous smaller memorial events organised nationwide. The overarching goal is to ensure that the atrocities of the Holocaust remain a permanent part of the collective national memory.
