Khan's Nightmare Eight Years
"Next May, it will be our job to pass judgement on Mayor Khan’s record as London Mayor. A man who has taken our Capital – and Havering – to the brink!
After 8 years of Mayor Khan, there is not a single positive thing he or the Labour Party can claim to have delivered for Havering or London. Under Mayor Khan’s watch, the London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police are in special measures. Knife crime is blighting our communities. Transport for London is in serious financial trouble, with no ability to invest in our transport infrastructure. Public confidence in the services Mayor Khan runs is at record lows.
Just this month, the High Court dealt the latest damning verdict on Sadiq Khan’s dreaded signature policy: the Ultra-Low Emission Zone which will charge drivers in certain vehicles £12.50 a day just to commute to work and see their friends. Following the ruling, Mayor Khan now faces a court judgement as to whether his expansion of ULEZ is lawful.
Rather than focusing on improving London’s services – which he is actually responsible for – Mayor Khan has instead wasted huge amounts of public money and time on attacking Britain’s proud history. Whilst crime went up and TfL teetered on the brink of bankruptcy, Khan was busy recruiting an army of woke warriors to run his ‘Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm’ to review our famous statutes, landmarks, streets and memorials whilst branding war hero Winston Churchill ‘very questionable’.
Throughout the period where people across Havering have had to withstand two monumental once in a century events – a global pandemic and a War in Europe – local residents in a Band D property, to use an example, have had to pay an extra £434 to fund Mayor Khan’s portion of the Council Tax. Despite local people’s clear support for my campaign to keep Havering a ‘Town and Country Borough’ which is fundamentally distinct and different to inner London, Mayor Khan has bulldozed ahead with his dangerous plans to concrete over Romford and Hornchurch with high rise flats.
Enough is enough! May 2024 gives us the opportunity to finally end Khan’s nightmare 8 years as London Mayor, but we need someone to run our Capital who will be bold and fight for wholesale reform of the way our Capital and the wider ‘London Orbital’ region is governed. We need a Mayor who will let Havering regain full control of our own affairs and allow us to be independent of the political structures of ‘Greater London’. Someone who truly recognises that Boroughs like Havering have far more in common with our nearby Essex communities than it does with those in inner London.
Mayor Khan’s ‘one size fits all’ approach has to end. It’s time to take back control!"
