It’s time for Change in City Hall!
"I am now in my thirty third year of elected service representing Romford. As someone who has grown up in Romford, went to school in Romford and has lived in Romford all my life, I remain deeply proud to have been elected to represent my hometown both as a both a local Councillor and Member of Parliament. I continue to be totally dedicated to working all year round for the residents of this wonderful historic Essex market town and will carry on doing so. I fully understand that this past year has not been easy for any of us; with the cost-of-living crisis, mortgage rate increases and energy bill hikes - all set against the backdrop of the ongoing economic recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic lockdowns. I know many of you have faced difficult decisions and continue to make sacrifices. Please be assured that I am doing all I can to help navigate us out of the woods. There are still going to be difficult decisions ahead and next year we will have the elections for both the London Assembly and Mayor of London; the result of these elections will significantly impact Romford. It cannot be underestimated just how much power the Mayor has over our borough, too much in my view! I am incredibly disappointed with our current Mayor, Sadiq Khan. His tenure in office has been catastrophic for Havering. Khan appears to have no understanding about areas like ours, which are not inner London. He seeks to impose policies on our borough that local people do not want, such as the ULEZ tax and forcing us to build more and more high-rise developments. It really is time for a change in ‘City Hall’. That is why I am backing Susan Hall to be our next Mayor of London. I would rather Havering be restored as a fully independent borough, with no control from London, but for the time being, that is the system we are part of, so if we want to defend and protect Havering, we need a Mayor who will be on our side and give us back more power over our own local affairs. That person is Susan Hall and next May, I hope we will all back her and at the same time, re-elect our Assembly Member, Keith Prince, in the best interests of our beloved Havering."
