Today, ahead of the Foreign Secretary's statement on the British handover of the Chagos Islands to Mauritius, Andrew Rosindell M.P. spoke to a group of Chagossians who were demonstrating outside of Parliament.
The Government has not consulted with the people of the Chagos Islands, no of whom want Mauritian sovereignty over the Chagos Islands - they at least deserve a say over their homeland!
Speaking on X on Monday, Andrew stated the following:
The good people of the Chagos Islands have been silenced for too long! It is time to put an end to this appalling injustice by giving British Chagosians the right to decide the destiny of their island homeland. The UK Government should not be giving away one of His Majesty's territories without the consent of the people who were the original inhabitants of the islands and are the true owners of the land. This is a shameful decision and a dark day for British democracy and human rights. The government should abandon this with deal with Mauritus immediately and guarantee the Chagosian people their right of self determination.
