Andrew Rosindell M.P., on the backdrop of effortless campaigning against Mayor Khan's vicious expansion of the U.L.E.Z., has released a statement earlier today condemning the Mayor of not listening to the people he is meant to represent and singlehandedly bringing working people to their knees.
"I am angry and dismayed that the Ultra-Low Emission Zone (U.L.E.Z.) has finally been expanded across ‘Greater London’ today, despite my calls to both the Mayor to cancel it and for the Government to intervene to block Khan’s catastrophic plans. This is a betrayal of the people of Romford by this Labour Mayor and our neighbouring communities in our part of Essex, who will now be forced to pay this tax in order to simply to drive their cars.
This regressive tax disproportionately affects low-income families and businesses and makes it more difficult for people to get to work, school, the doctor's surgery, to see relatives and go about their daily lives. Imposing this tax is undemocratic and wrong.
I have consistently opposed the U.L.E.Z. and I will continue to do so. I urge the Mayor to reconsider his decision and I still call on the Government to take action to overrule City Hall and get the cameras turned off!
In the meantime, it is paramount that the people of Romford vote for Susan Hall at the next mayoral election. Susan is the only candidate who has pledged to repeal the U.L.E.Z. She is the best hope we have to get rid of this unfair tax and put the needs of the entirety the London region.
This episode has reinforced my view that it is time to reform the London government completely and allow boroughs like Havering to be independent from this artificial construction of ‘Greater London’ and ‘City Hall’ and return to our Essex roots.
In the meantime, any constituent who wishes to tell me bout their experiences in dealing with the U.L.E.Z. tax and how it is affecting them, should contact me as their M.P. so that I can speak up on their behalf and fight back against Khan and the damage he is doing to Romford and the whole of Havering.”
