Following several complaints from constituents within the Romford constituency, regarding the apparent abuse of property rights by Havering Council, Andrew Rosindell M.P. has released the following statement and is investigating the issue.

A growing number of Romford residents have contacted me with similar stories of their property rights and contractual agreements being violated by the local Council.
The situations are almost all identical. The individual buys a property, as a solid investment of their hard-earned cash. They rent the property to the Council. However, with rising mortgage and interest rates, the owners notify the Council of their intention to sell the property. On almost every occasion, the Council has refused to hand over the property to the owner. This is in contravention of their contract and cannot be allowed to continue!
Property rights are an essential part of British democracy, but appear to be increasingly disregarded as a matter of course. This worrying situation must be urgently dealt with before it becomes the norm, and more property owners are made to suffer the consequences!
