Statement from Andrew Rosindell, Member of Parliament for Romford, following British and American Airstrikes against Houthi targets in response to piracy in the Red Sea:
I support the government's commitment to defending freedom of navigation and protecting lives at sea in light of the concerning rise in Houthi attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. This is modern day piracy, and it cannot be tolerated. However, I also recognise the complexities of past interventions in the Middle East. It is therefore imperative that our current intervention draws on the lessons of past challenges to ensure a balanced and informed approach, taking into consideration the potential consequences to civilian life and the future instability of the region. Whilst we must take decisive action to ensure the safety of our waters and prevent further disruption to international trade, we must do this with judicious foresight.Andrew Rosindell M.P.
