Over the course of the last two months, Andrew Rosindell M.P. has been collecting signatures to oppose the closure of the Collier Row and Gidea Park Libraries. Many Romford residents have raised their objections to the Council's plans.
As detailed prior to the General Election in May, Andrew believes that the Council's actions demonstrate a lack of foresight as to how the libraries could be used in future, such as being a community hub.
Since the last time I wrote to you objecting to the proposed closures, over 600 local people have taken time to make their opposition to these plans known to me. They deserve to have their views listened to by Havering Council.
Andrew Rosindell M.P. in a letter to Havering Council
Andrew has sent a letter to Cllr. Middleton, the Cabinet Member for Customer Services, to formally register the outcome of the petition, which was handed out in person and was completed online on this website.
A copy of the letter can be read below.
During the election campaign, many people made their concerns known on the doorstep. Some stated that the libraries could, in part, help to tackle anti-social behaviour which has increased in the year over the last few years.
