Today, I was privileged to attend the raising of the Commonwealth flag from Havering Town Hall on the morning of Commonwealth Day. It was a great honour to be asked to recite the Commonwealth Secretary General's speech.
I was joined by the Mayor of Havering, representatives from the Royal Air Force, the Royal Air Force Cadets and The Salvation Army who attended the event to hear a message from Her Majesty The Queen, recited by the Deputy Lieutenant of Havering, Nick Bracken O.B.E.
We have the capacity to advance so many good causes around the world – such as democracy, economic freedom and civil rights – but only if we work together.
Economically, the Commonwealth is dynamic with the combined GDP of members topping $10 trillion, or 14% of the total global GDP.
Now that we have got Brexit done, a more conscious effort must be made to strengthen the relationship between the United Kingdom and our Commonwealth allies and to move away from an ever-closer European Union.
