The Cross of St. George flew high in Romford as the town celebrated St. George's Day with patriotic fervour. The traders in Romford Market proudly displayed the flag of St. George, while the Romford Royal British Legion Band & Corps of Drums played rousing tunes, setting the stage for a magnificent day of celebration.
The excitement continued on the Saturday evening, as I hosted a splendid St. George's Day Celebration Dinner at Romford Golf Club. The evening began with a procession of 'the Roast Beef of Old England' led by the Chef and blessed by Father Roderick Hingley from St. Alban Protomartyr, Romford. This was followed by speeches from Sir 'Winstan' Churchill and Joy Morrisey M.P., with toasts to His Majesty The King, proposed by Cllr. Michael White, Margaret Thatcher by Cllr. Keith Prince AM, Prime Minister Rishi Sunak by Romford Young Conservative Chairman, Joe Lynch, and to 'England and St. George', proposed by Cllr. Dilip Patel.
The occasion was organised with great care and attention to detail by Cllr. Christine Vickery, who ensured that every moment was filled with joy, laughter, and a true sense of patriotism.
The celebrations were a true reflection of the community spirit in Romford and the pride that its residents feel in their country and culture. It was a memorable occasion that will be cherished for years to come.
St. George's Day in Romford was a resounding success, and we thank all those who contributed to making it a memorable and joyous occasion. We look forward to continuing to celebrate the heritage and traditions of England in the years to come.
