Earlier today, Andrew Rosindell M.P. wrote to the Home Secretary calling on her to establish a route to citizenship for Commonwealth born servicemen and women who currently serve in the British Armed Forces.
Commonwealth citizens, as well as citizens of the Republic of Ireland, can join the British Armed Forces like any one of us - however, upon retirement, or even during their time in the forces, they are not permitted British citizenship and oftentimes have to go back to their home country.
This is wrong. They fight for our King and they defend this country from those who would do us harm - it is only fair that they be treated like any one of us.
In the letter, Andrew stated:
"Commonwealth citizens who serve in our Armed Forces make an invaluable contribution to the defence of the Realm. They are loyal to both King and Country, and they put their lives on the line to defend our island home. They deserve to be rewarded for their service, and one way of doing just that is to make it easier for them to become one of us."
