"Today, we observe the one-year anniversary of Queen Elizabeth II's passing, our longest-reigning monarch. The departure of Her Majesty was keenly felt, not only within the United Kingdom but also resonated with her people worldwide throughout the Commonwealth Realms and the wider Commonwealth. It felt as though she was the very cornerstone on which modern Britain was built which made her loss a shock which shook the very core of our communities.
As the Member of Parliament for Romford, I will forever treasure the privilege of accompanying Her Majesty at Romford Market in 2003 and sharing a meal with her at Wykeham Hall, St. Edward’s Church. Her charm, wit, and intelligence were of course on display, but she had the remarkable ability to connect to people on a personal level. She was truly unparalleled, even by the statesmen of her early reign.
With her passing, a new chapter in our history has unfolded, marked by the accession of His Majesty, King Charles III. His inaugural year as King has borne witness to the continuation of the stability inherited from his mother's legacy, coupled with the innovative spirit he pledged to bring to his role as Sovereign. Our nation remains firmly in capable hands, and the future is characterised by a seamless blend of tradition and progress.
Today, along with our united Commonwealth, we pay homage to Queen Elizabeth II and her remarkable life. Her impact reached far beyond the borders of her realms and territories. In our collective memory, she endures as an icon of resilience, leadership, and benevolence. Although she has departed from this world, her spirit lives on, eternally guiding and inspiring us."
