Andrew Rosindell M.P. has called upon BBC Essex and other local broadcasters to broadcast Romford’s appearance at Wembley Stadium for the FA Vase Final.
This comes following Romford's win against Lincoln on Saturday Afternoon.
Andrew has contacted BBC Essex for comment.
His statement is as follows:
Romford Football Club’s amazing Victory in the FA Vase semi-finals is an historic moment for all Romfordians! We are immensely proud of our local football team and are right behind them as they face the final challenge in Wembley next month. As Romford’s M.P. and a passionate support of Romford Football Club, I hope that all local media and most especially the BBC, will provide extensive coverage to the match and give prominence to our historic Essex market town of Romford and our magnificent football team. Romford is and always will be, a proud part of the historic county of Essex. At the moment, our town may be part of ‘Greater London’ for regional government purposes, but our history, geography and community ties remain firmly rooted within Essex. This is especially so when it comes to sporting activities. The historic County of Essex includes Romford and this is recognised by His Majesty’s Government. Therefore, any suggestion by the regional media organisations, such as the BBC, that we are not part of Essex is completely wrong. They cannot claim to be a true Essex broadcaster, if they refuse to cover the whole of the county. It cannot be right that a town with such a rich history, character and strong grassroots community should be sidelined because of artificial boundaries imposed by broadcasting bureaucrats. It is time for Romford to be put firmly back on the Essex map, where it belongs!
