Earlier today, Andrew Rosindell M.P. lended his support to the Helping Rhinos campaign at their Parliamentary event sponsored by Sir Roger Gale M.P.
This was to view a film of rhino rescues and hear about the threats pushing rhino populations to extinction such as poaching and lack of habitat and the charity’s strategy to tackle this terrible trend and secure sustainable populations of rhinoceros on our planet.
Helping Rhinos is a British charity which aims to preserve and protect rhino populations in Africa, by expanding wild spaces for them to thrive.
This is done simultaneously with contributions to socioeconomic stability within local communities where these rhino populations reside.
Andrew has long been an advocate for animal welfare and the end to trophy hunting, and so it was his privlege to attend and support the campaign in Westminster.
I was delighted to meet the team from Helping Rhinos. They are a British charity whose goals are to protect rhinos in their natural habitat by working with local communities. It is shocking that Rhinos are at risk of extinction and yet still poached for their horns, which are simply keratin, the same substance as our fingernails and hair. This terrible poaching leaves orphan rhino calves to die, but thanks to work supported by HELPING RHINOS charity there is hope for the future of these magnificent animals. It was heartening to see the progress made by orphan rhino calves from rescue to rehabilitation and release.
Simon Jones, founder and CEO said,
Our charity is striving to create Rhino Strongholds – expanding wild spaces for wildlife, to project wildlife, preserve habitat and provide opportunities for local people to be integral to saving their unique and majestic wildlife. We have teams working to rescue and rehabilitate orphaned rhino calves, we fund both ground and aerial anti-poaching patrols, help restore degraded habitats and support local communities through the building of new schools. By working alongside globally respected conservation partners, Helping Rhinos are building a better future for rhino. I am delighted that Andrew Rosindell M.P. has met me to support the efforts of Helping Rhinos to protect one of the most iconic and critically endangered animals on our planet.
