Hylands and Harrow Lodge Ward is an electoral ward in the London Borough of Havering, covering the northwest part of Hornchurch blending into southern Romford. It was established in 2022, replacing the former Hylands ward. The ward returns three councillors to Havering Council and includes streets from the previous wards of Hylands, Brooklands, and Romford Town.
This time, will be electing councillors for brand new wards, with new boundaries and names that truly reflect their historic character!... In Hornchurch, ‘Hylands’ will be renamed ‘Hylands and Harrow Lodge’, naming both local parks that are treasured by our community.
Andrew Rosindell M.P. on the proposed changes to the names of Romford's wards, Friday, 18 June, 2021
Hylands Park, after which the ward is named, is a public park in northwest Hornchurch near Romford. Purchased in 1920, it was officially opened in 1929, and during the Second World War, a Spitfire narrowly avoided crashing in the park. The former trotting track has been converted into a path encircling cricket and football pitches, with notable features such as stone and wrought iron gates from the demolished Grey Towers and a rose garden.
Harrow Lodge Park, another inspiration for the ward's name, is a large public park in Hornchurch, established in 1936 by the Hornchurch Urban District Council. It includes a cricket pitch used by Hornchurch Cricket Club and was partly created on land donated by Richard Costain and Sons Ltd., developers of Elm Park Garden City housing development.
